Description:
I picked this 2005 GTi DSG up a couple of months ago as a project. Within a couple of weeks I got the dreaded "STOP engine, low oil pressure" warning. Stopped immediately and stripped the sump off to find a partially blocked oil pickup, the balancer shaft sprocket bolt sheared in half, and the oil pump drive chain at a jaunty angle. All a very common story on Mk5/6 VAG 2.0Ts.
I've fitted a used good oil pump and balancer shaft assembly, a freewheeling sprocket on the balancer shaft to avoid the same problem in the future, a new genuine oil pickup, bosch oil filter, Febi fuel pump cam follower, and put it back together with the correct VAG sealant on the spacer plate and sump. Now running pretty well with no warning lights or other mishaps.
The car has done 124k and I don't have a single bit of service history for it other than receipts for the parts I've just fitted. Logging the requested vs actual timing adjustment on VCDS, it looks like the timing chain, tensioner, and dephaser pulley could do with being replaced. I've got the parts for that and the camshaft locking kit, so I'll get that done shortly. It has Bilstein B6 shocks and new springs as a bonus.
Ideally, I'd like to swap this for a bike. I'll look at other cars though, especially old school Japanese.
