The Mercedes-Benz R350 CDI. What is that? Mercedes designed the R-Class as a luxury family MPV, combining the space and practicality of a proper seven-seater with the comfort, build quality and driving experience you would expect from a Mercedes.

Mechanically, the R-Class is closely related to the Mercedes M-Class/ML of the same generation and shares many of its components. Under the bonnet is the well-known 3.0-litre V6 OM642 diesel engine, which has an excellent reputation for durability and longevity when properly maintained.

As for my particular car, there are no issues with either the engine or the suspension. It has been regularly maintained and genuinely looked after. The oil has always been changed regularly — the most recent oil change was carried out at the time of the latest MOT, with the previous one approximately 7,000 miles before that. I also have service history and receipts.

I am the third owner of the car.

The only real reason I am considering selling or swapping it is that I simply no longer need a seven-seater. Part of the family has moved away, so a car of this size now spends far too much time sitting unused.

This is a car that has been cared for, is still cared for, and is genuinely loved. It is actually a shame for me to see it sitting around doing nothing when it could be used and enjoyed by a family who really needs this sort of vehicle.

One of the biggest advantages of the R350 is the amount of space inside. There is loads of legroom and headroom, even for a very tall driver, and the front and rear seats are extremely comfortable. Unlike many modern seven-seat SUVs, the third row is genuinely usable rather than being somewhere you would only want to put small children for a short journey.

The 3.0 V6 diesel produces around 265 bhp together with plenty of torque, so despite the size of the car it pulls very strongly and is surprisingly enjoyable to drive. On longer journeys it really comes into its own — quiet, stable, effortless and extremely comfortable.

It also comes with navigation, a very good sound system, a spacious and well-kept interior, and everything you need for comfortable family trips.

For someone genuinely looking for a large, powerful and comfortable seven-seater, the R350 CDI is a bit of a dream car. It isn’t just another MPV — it was Mercedes’ take on a luxury people carrier, built for long-distance travelling and family comfort without sacrificing performance.

I’m also open to a swap for a good five-seater with plenty of space, potentially with cash your way.
