Testing the water for my much loved F350. Ive owned this just over 2 years.
This was always the truck i wanted. Big and ridiculous.i did use this as a daily alongside a works van but other things in life have come up and needs must.
7.3 powerstroke diesel v8
Turbo like a dinner plate dont confuse with the early idi model
183,000 miles give or take a few. Million mile engine they reckon on these in the states.
Mot till May.
4 speed auto on column
Originally brough to the uk in 96 new.
( have some pics from the 1st owner)
For the first half of its life it was a recovery truck with a spec lift body on the rear. It was then sold from that company where it was passed around the country a few times before landing in my hands.
Ive spent a small fortune bringing it up to a presentable standard where it always gets lots of attention and lots of pictures taken wherever it goes. Dont let the wife tell you its not practical. I regularly parked it in the local supermarket. (Taking 4 spaces)
So it was green when i got it so its had a full spray in matt black. All logos are hand painted. Pinstriped on the bonnet and various other panels. Roof has some subtle lace work done. If anything body wise the front wings are a little blistered but nothing major and there was abit of rust on the front corners of the cab floor which was on my list to get done. I can get pics of these areas this week.
Chassis is solid
Interior wise everything was repainted and trimmed minus the seats as not got round to them yet. The whole dash was removed and all old / excess wiring from its recovery days was removed. Doors / roof / rear section of cab was sound deadened front half of floor still needed doing ideally bug i was in a rush to throw the rubber matting back in for a long journey i was doing and didnt want the noise to be excessive. Door cards retrimmed in black leather. All custom stitch work done. Roof lining retrimmed in black leather.
Single din aftermarket headunit with bluetooth. Obviously with a vehicle of this age there are various trims broken / missing main one being ashtray doesnt stay in dash due to tabs been broken. Ashtray is present and again was on the list of little jobs to tackle.
Crew cab with 2 big bench seats for 6 people
Rubber floor for easy cleaning.
Seats are still red as i was working my way through the truck having it re trimmed.
Mechanically the 7.3 is a monster, it pulls like a train. Does have a hydra tuner ecu chip on it with 9 different maps going up to an extra 80hp. Doesnt seem alot but when running on a top map it kicks out black smoke and goes like a scaulded cat.
Last year it had a few new sensors due to an intermitant starting issue.
New Ips sensor
New crank sensor
New pressure regulator
New glow plug relay
New thermostat and housing
( definatly benfit from some new glow plugs) as it doesnt like to start in the cold.
Had a service (takes around 14ltrs of engine oil if i remember correctly)
It does have oil leaks but what 30 year old diesel doesnt.
Rear brake linings were new last year along with brake pipes over rear axle and wheel cylinders
I have used it to pull a 5th wheel camper back from devon to leeds and it towed it amazing.
Bad points:
Id say for next mot it may need a pair of front wheel bearings. Slight rumble but guess thats down to tester.
Smokes like buggery on cold start up. But these 7.3 all do that.
Id really class this as a rolling resto as it go stops and turns.
It has its niggles and features but again what old classic motor doesnt.
Cheapest car ive actually had when it come to insurance etc. Classuc policy on agreed calue of 15k costs less than £300 a year.
Logbook is still down as a recovery vehicle so tax is £14 a month
Plate not included. I'll be keeping this so will be on age related.
There will be loads more i have forgotten but i have hundreds or pics. Lots of history with it.
May possibly consider a px with a dodge ram / cheaper yank but ideally looking for a cash sale.
