Description:

1987 Jaguar XJS 3.6 Automatic.

Where do I start with looks cool/bit shabby/looks cool old school Jag?

Let’s do the good. That’s always a good place to start. It’s mechanically brilliant. Sits at motorway speeds effortlessly, gearbox is spot on, engine smooth, pulls well, holds temp, great oil pressure. It really is a very driveable car. Interior is good, Bluetooth stereo, climate control works (well for an XJS).

The challenges? The paint looks great from 10 yards away. Even better from 11. But despite being told by the person I bought it from that it polishes up great it’s got some wear. And a few bubbles. It’s structurally very solid, just showing its age here and there. The horn doesn’t work, the fuel gauge is on holiday. Which is annoying.

The story? I bought this a week ago as a stopgap car and because I’ve always wanted to try one. It’s a good candidate for rolling (wafting?) restoration, but I’m not going to get that deep into it. It’s a brilliant cruise around and have a giggle without being too precious about it. It’s old, drives nicely and is a bit shabby. Which does have a certain cool factor. I’m taking a bit of a bath on what I paid, but that’s because I’m more realistic about what it’s worth. The joys of buying blind. On the plus side, my stopgap requirement is over, I’ve taken a couple of cool Instagram pics, and now I can move on. You can happily drive it away, and it’s got an MOT until mid-August, and if you fix the horn, it should pass the next one with no issue.

It's an old Jag. I’ve been pretty open about the condition, so don’t turn up expecting concours.

I’ll sort some more pics when I get chance.
