Let's get one thing straight ..from the beginning. This bike is Not the usual Bodge.. I've been working on bikes..writing about them and customising them for long enough to know exactly what I'm doing.
I've changed the title because I've been advised that it isn't so much a 'Bobber'..more of a Cafe Racer...or even a 'Chop'.. ?
I have made a few modifications since the pictures were taken...the bike is now fitted with a sissy-bar and cartridge-bag .. Looks great and gives you somewhere to keep your sandwiches...and makes it more of a 'Chop'.
The bike rides as well as a standard one..indeed, in my opinion..Better.
No carburation 'glitches'..excellent throttle response and indecently smooth idling.
Ive not long finished the bike, which was in a real state when I bought it; a Lot of work has gone into this project.
It's not 'Concours' and was never intended to be... It Is a smart, sound and functional little bike, with a hint of exclusivity. 22,000 miles, which I believe is genuine.
Once upon a time it had been a 1977 GS 550L... I DID NOT saw the back end off, and would not have done so..But....
Given the status of the bike I decided to make the Best of what it was, and I'm glad I did as it became increasingly obvious that before hacksaw-man got to it, and smothered it in a dreadful concretion of Matt Black paint...it had been a well cared-for machine.
New old-stock exhaust..with my own little touch. Rebuilt carbs, which benefit from a Dyno Jet kit ( idles and runs nicely ).. totally re-wired with Honda Regulator -Rectifier. LED lights. I have simplified the wiring as much as possible.
Despite my dislike of some 'Customs'..I think this thing looks ok..and possibly better than the Factory-Stance it once had.
I've done about 500+ miles since finishing this bike and have done a few club-runs... hasn't missed a beat and has attracted favourable comments throughout..
It's just had its first oil change and service. Removed-oil was still clean.
